Secretary of Labor Comments on Decline in Number of Reported Workplace Injuries and Illnesses

October 21, 2010 - The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses among private industry employers declined in 2009 to a rate of 3.6 cases per 100 equivalent full-time workers, down from a total case rate of 3.9 in 2008. BLS also reported a decline in the total number of cases from 3.7 million in 2008 to 3.3 million in 2009.
